For the longest time some of us have seen the President as “the boss”. The problem with this perspective is that the President of the United States is not the boss of the country. He is the Chief Executive of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. “The Boss” is the citizens of the United States. In this republican form of government the citizens are represented by members of Congress, Representatives and Senators. Congress is “The Boss”. I believe that the founders of this republic intended that the President would serve Congress.
It seems to me that the person who bore the title President of the United States between January 20, 2017 and January 20, 2021 did not believe that he served Congress and that the opposite was true. He has never served under anyone in government or business, always served only himself and was always “The Boss”. As disturbing as that is, it is more disturbing that many citizens and members of congress also believed it.
They seemed to choose his will over ours. I pray that the next President will choose to serve as the founders intended, With experience in service to this nation in business and government, with successes and failures, to guide him to serve efficiently, fairly and with compassion for all.
