Irony Satire Sarcasm

I want to understand irony:  the expression of one’s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect .

It comes to mind that I enjoy ironic twists in stories and such. Consider the song “I Started a Joke” by the Bee Gees.  Here’s another link that I found following the previous one to YouTube.

Here is another link to an article explaining Irony vs. Satire and Sarcasm
“People make satire and sarcasm happen. Irony is just there.”

On sarcasm: from “Rizzoli & Isles” TV series S2 E10 “Remember Me.
Jane Rizzoli: “that’s sarcasm.”
Maura Isles: “Using irony to convey contemp?”

Actually the first time I heard “I Started a Joke” was listening to Richie Havens’ album “Stonehenge” in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York, in the early 1970s.

I share this because it’s a favorite from the “Concert for George” “Something“.  But I digress.  As you know, digression is the better part of valor.
